What We Do

Introduction

The Council of Mosques (CoM) was established to bridge communication gaps between mosques within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and statutory providers. It has since operated as an independent umbrella organisation representing a diverse membership of local mosques, cultural and Islamic centres with 45 members at present.

The Council of Mosques is a charity that offers engagement between the local Muslim community of Tower Hamlets and a number of government departments and local service providers such as the Home Office; Foreign & Commonwealth Office; London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority; the Local Authority; the Metropolitan Police Authority, and the NHS Primary Care Trust to name a few.

Working in collaboration and partnership forms the backbone of the Council of Mosques philosophy where its role as a conduit of communication between the Muslim community in Tower Hamlets and the Local Authority is central.

Currently, the Council of Mosques offers four main areas of service provision:

  • Capacity building and training programmes for its members and affiliates
  • Consultation and advocacy on local issues
  • Community cohesion activities including interfaith work
  • Employment advice and guidance

The Council of Mosques is a growing organisation that continues to excel in its representative, advocacy and capacity building roles.
